That’s a wrap: Day 10 at the Melbourne Royal Show

The excitement reached a fever pitch at the Melbourne Royal today, where the air was thick with anticipation as competitors showcased their finest livestock and showmanship skills. From the majestic mane of the Champion Show Hunter Galloway to the nimble paws of the best canine competitors, the day’s events celebrated excellence in equestrian, canine and cattle competitions.

 

As the day unfolded, the Australian Young Farmer Challenge brought together the most skilled, passionate and pop quiz ready young farmers from five states, all vying for the title in a fast-paced competition. With excitement in every corner of the showgrounds, today’s events highlighted not only individual talent, but also the pure energetic spirit of agricultural shows.

Melbourne Royal All Breeds Auction

The Melbourne Royal All Breeds Auction showcased a diverse range of stud beef breeds, successfully conducted by Brian Leslie of Elite Livestock Auctions at 3:30pm. With 16 lots on offer, the auction saw a strong performance, with 11 out of 16 lots sold.

The highlight of the day was the top-selling entry, JSRL Blackbird U72, an Angus heifer, which fetched an impressive price of $21,000.

 

Australian Young Farmer Challenge State and National Finals

The 2024 Australian Young Farmer Challenge State and National Finals brought together an impressive lineup of young talent from across five states, all vying for the top spot.

Along with showcasing their skills in a series of on-farm simulated challenges and surprise, this year the relay-style event included a brain-testing tease on the Entertainment Stage at 3pm, before competitors rolled up their sleeves and headed to the Main Arena at 5pm.
