That’s a wrap: Day 5 at the Melbourne Royal Show
Following an action-packed weekend at the Melbourne Royal Show, the week started on a sweet note with judging of pastry perfection in the hotly contested apple pie competition.
On day five, judging continued in the Arena with the best Australian Stock Horses on show, prized memorial trophies were presented in our Clydesdale classes, and acclaimed international dog judges deliberated over the best in breed for Poodles, Whippets, Boxers and Dalmatians.
Darren Keating, Executive General Manager Agriculture, Melbourne Royal highlighted the significance of tradition across the competition categories.
“Melbourne Royal is steeped in tradition, with entrants travelling from across the country year after year to compete for the prestigious blue ribbon. The calibre of competition never ceases to impress, and today’s winners are no exception,” Darren said.

Melbourne Royal Art, Craft & Cookery
A delicious showdown took place live on-stage in the Spotlight Makers Pavilion with the apple pie competition judging. Every bite tells a story of tradition and talent, and judges were treated to an impeccable selection of baked delights while patrons watched on to learn the art of pastry perfection.

Melbourne Royal All Breeds Championship Show
The finest Poodles, Whippets, Boxers and Dalmatians were named on day five, with judging focused on which dog best fits the breed standard.
Best of Breed Poodle (Miniature): Mrs J Sculac, Volgarus Frank Sinatra
Best of Breed Poodle (Standard): Mr J Bennett & Mr L Wright, Voila Raising the Stakes
Best of Breed Poodle (Toy): Mrs J Sculac & Mrs M Wong, Full of Joy
Best of Breed Whippet: Ms L Barrenger, Isilwane Do You See What I See
Best of Breed Boxer: Mr L Bleakley & Mr A Fry, Lambda Lucky Star
Best of Breed Dalmatian: Jalorca Kennels, Whytewood Gordon of the Glen.
Melbourne Royal Horses in Action Competition
Day five featured an impressive display of horse flesh, conformation, manners and paces in the Main Arena, with championship judging of the Australian Stock Horse, which has been bred for Australian conditions. Meanwhile, the breed that built Australia, the mighty Clydesdales, were shown in the Livestock Pavilion.
Champion Ridden Stock Horse: Chalay Koa exhibited by Chantelle Vella (NSW competitor from the Hunter Valley with a long history of success at Melbourne Royal.)
Corrie S. Rodda Memorial Trophy: Box Valley Clydesdales with their nomination Box Valley Lady Belle (Awarded to the highest placed exhibit bred by the exhibitor in Clydesdale Filly, 2 Year Old class. Names in honour of Corrie Rodda who conducted the ‘Fairview Stud’ at Warracknabeal until World War II. He was a successful exhibitor at the Royal Melbourne Show and imported noted Clydesdales ‘Orange Blossom’, ‘Wells Mascal’ and ‘Liston Duke’ from Scotland.)
Caplen Memorial Trophy: Cox Family with their nomination Valmont Evoque (Awarded to the Best Clydesdale Female.)
