YOU’VE NEVER BEEN TO THIS ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW16 July, 2019
The 2019 Royal Melbourne Show, held from Saturday 21 September to Tuesday 1 October at Melbourne Showgrounds, will be like no other, with an all new program of activities and pavilions on offer.
Presented by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), Victoria’s largest and most iconic annual community event is a tradition among families and friends, celebrating everything about Victoria in one place and it now has more firsts, more to do and more to see than ever before.
This year will see the introduction of the Future Pavilion - Australia’s first fully immersive tech and video gaming experience that will showcase emerging technologies, particularly in the fields of innovative gadgets and virtual reality, to allow Royal Melbourne Show visitors the opportunity to experience life and efficiencies of the future. Activations include robot and VR demonstrations, a gaming precinct and a digital shopping experience.
Entertainment this year includes the internationally acclaimed Elton John Experience and twice daily performances by PAW Patrol and Cosentino, the grand illusionist.
Brand new parades will take to the streets of the Melbourne Showgrounds twice daily and will include a selection of much-loved TV and film characters along with marching bands and community groups.
New and elevated dining experiences will be on offer, after the success of The Meadow in 2018 which proved to be a hotspot for a relaxed lunch or dinner. Building from that will be a variety of restaurant-quality food offerings in various locations around the Show, including the new Angus Steakhouse, led by chef and Head of Food & Beverage, Neil Rocke. The affordable classic pub-style steakhouse will boast daily specialty cuts with vegetarian options and a wine list for the grown-ups.
The brand-new Jurassic Creatures pavilion, which is only available in Melbourne during the Show will see families be palaeontologists for the day as the ancient world full of animatronic dinosaurs is explored.
While it’s an old favourite, and last year celebrated 100 years, showbags will this year be on offer in the Grand Pavilion, presenting the largest exhibition of showbags in the world. Hundreds of thousands of showbags with over 350 varieties will be on offer, ensuring a colourful, crafty, delicious, weird and wacky showbag to suit everyone.
While so much is new, the Royal Melbourne Show will also offer families the traditional and much-loved experiences, including:
- Action packed thrills at the Herald Sun Arena
- The true celebration of Victorian agriculture where visitors can shear sheep, milk cows and cuddle chooks and watch the prestigious animal competitions vying for a coveted blue ribbon in the Livestock Pavilion
- The food offering at the Winning Tastes Pavilion, Winning Tastes Courtyard and The Meadow
- The many fast, tame and spooky rides
- Daily performances in the Channel 7 Entertainment Precinct
- And nightly spectacular fireworks brought to you by Brighter
Reflecting on the huge line up of new and traditional entertainment, food and agriculture, Paul Guerra, Chief Executive Officer RASV is ecstatic to unveil an all new Royal Melbourne Show for unbeatable value - one that’s never been experienced before.
“The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria has been committed to providing visitors with new ways to truly experience the Royal Melbourne Show, to really get up close and be a part of it, whether that’s by feeding a baby lamb, crafting a keepsake or taking in the views from the Skywheel.
“It’s easy to think that after 160 years, you know what to expect from the Royal Melbourne Show, but this year there will be so many new things, while we hold on to some of the old favourites, and even reposition key activities for much easier access.” Guerra said.
The Royal Melbourne Show gates will open daily from 9:30am to 9:00pm. The best way to travel to the Show is by public transport, with trains, trams and buses making for a quick and simple commute.
