The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) is pleased to announce plans to keep the spirit of the Royal Melbourne Show alive with the ‘Celebrating the Show Online’ campaign to be conducted from 19-29 September.

Since the announcement of the Royal Melbourne Show cancellation earlier this year due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the RASV has remained committed to celebrating the many vibrant elements and passionate people and that bring the Royal Melbourne Show to life each year.

The ‘Celebrating the Show Online’ campaign will be featured online from 19-29 September through the Royal Melbourne Show social media and digital platforms and will include themed days, profiles of farmers and agricultural experts, live farm-cam, videos, competitions, memorable moments from past Shows and more.

Excited about recognising the Royal Melbourne Show and the importance of the diverse agricultural community, RASV CEO Brad Jenkins was looking forward to keeping the Royal Melbourne Show spirit alive this September.

“It takes a variety of talented and passionate people to bring the Royal Melbourne Show to life each year and while the gates won’t open this September, the RASV will be promoting and celebrating agriculture, competitors and exhibitors that support the Show each year,

“We rely on hundreds of volunteers including committees, judges, stewards and more, who give their time so generously for the Royal Melbourne Show and this campaign will celebrate and recognise some of the people and communities that bring the event to life,” said Mr Jenkins.

The RASV has proudly presented the Royal Melbourne Show since 1855 and prior to this year, it had only been called off on two occasions in its 165-year history. First, when Melbourne Showgrounds was requisitioned for the war effort in 1915 and again in WWII between 1940-1945.

With the exiting 11-day program of events to be released in the next two weeks, stay tuned for more information to be published on the RASV and Royal Melbourne Show social media and digital platforms.

“Attending the Royal Melbourne Show each year is a tradition for many Victorians.

“Whilst the Melbourne Showgrounds gates will not open this September due to COVID restrictions, we invite all Victorians to celebrate the Show online this year by engaging with our social media and digital platforms,” said Mr Jenkins.

The Royal Melbourne Show is Victoria’s largest and most iconic annual community event, attracting around 450,000 visitors over 11 days each year and contributes more than $244 million in value to the State of Victoria’s economy annually.

We look forward to bringing everyone together to celebrate the Royal Melbourne Show when it returns bigger and better in 2021 from Thursday 23 September to Sunday 3 October at Melbourne Showgrounds,” Jenkins concluded.
