Did you know that dairy cows eat around 40kg of food every day? All this food helps them to produce nutritious, high calcium milk, which helps us to build and maintain strong bones.
The Melbourne Royal Dairy Cattle Competition in the Kubota Australia Livestock Pavilion welcomes visitors of all ages to learn and see the great tradition of preparing dairy cattle for Show.
The judging of Dry Classes will be at 5pm Friday 23 September and In-Milk Classes at 10:30am on Saturday 24 September.
Relax and watch as the smallest calves and the biggest cows compete for blue ribbon glory at the Show.
Meet some friendly Jersey cows
The Melbourne Royal Show has heaps of milking cows to meet and if you want the full farmer experience, why not try your hand at milking a cow in the Pura Pavilion.
Catch this experience four times a day, at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm in the Pura Pavilion from 27 September to 2 October.
The future of farming
You can also witness the future of farming as young dairy farmers aged 21 years and under compete in the Dairy Youth Handlers Classic. In addition to the large range of existing classes available as part of the Melbourne Royal Dairy Competition, this year we have added a Best BPI class.
